Compassion is an intrinsic part of human nature. It is practiced both intentionally and subconsciously, from self sacrifices to help the unfortunate to benevolent wishes, or simply not doing harm towards any other living being. Yet, because compassion is something so basic, it gets buried under layers of values of necessity and expediency as the demands of material progression in modern day society continually rises - to the point of near collapse, as most people would agree - through wasteful competition and unconscionable exploitation. It is time we reversed this destructive process. Instead of projecting power over an inanimate world and subjugating it to our will, we should embrace it and all creatures living in it with our basic compassion.
